On Sunday, March 18, 2018, Magevet, one of the nation’s premier a cappella singing groups, will perform a free concert at 12 Noon at 5898 Wilkins Avenue (corner of Wilkins and Shady Avenue) in Squirrel Hill.
The concert is jointly sponsored by four of Pittsburgh’s Jewish congregations: Beth Shalom, Dor Hadash, New Light and Tree of Life* Or L’Simcha. We warmly invite the entire community to attend this delightful afternoon of musical entertainment. Refreshments will be provided after the performance.
Magevet’s innovative repertoire and engaging a cappella performance have captivated audiences around the world. The group will perform a diverse repertoire spanning modern Israeli pop and Renaissance choral pieces to Yiddish folk tunes and Zionist classics. With its sweet blend of voices, unique arrangements, and lighthearted sense of humor, Magevet is devoted to spreading Jewish music to the far corners of the globe. The performance is part of Magevet’s Pittsburgh and Cincinnati tour, scheduled for March 15th –March 25th.
This collaboration among the four congregations is indicative of a recently heightened interest in combining the resources of East End Jewish institutions to provide exciting cultural, educational, social, and religious programing for the Jewish community and Pittsburgh at large. Three of the four congregations sponsoring the Magevet performance co-reside under one roof at the Tree of Life building at 5898 Wilkins Avenue, at the corner of Shady Avenue in Squirrel Hill, where Magevet will perform.
