Cemetery Rules & Regulations
Perpetual Care includes regular mowing of the grass, trimming around monuments and markers, and raising and grading sunken graves. It does not include maintenance of plantings, bushes, etc., installed by the family. There is a yearly fee to cover maintenance of the family installed plantings.
- No cremated remains may be buried in the cemetery area without the approval of the Rabbi of New Light Congregation.
- No burials shall take place on Shabbat or major Jewish Festivals (the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th days of Pesach, both days of Shavuot, the 1st and 2nd days of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, both days of Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur).
- All bodies to be buried in the cemetery area shall be prepared with Taharah and Takhrikhin.
- A wooden casket and a vault or container shall be used.
- No rituals or ceremonies inconsistent with the teachings of Judaism shall be performed in the cemetery area, and no symbols or insignia inconsistent with the teachings of Judaism shall be displayed there, whether permanently or temporarily.
- Disinterment shall be permitted only in exceptional circumstances and must be approved by the Rabbi of New Light Congregation.
- A monument or marker shall be placed on each occupied grave, no more than 24 months after burial. Either a flat marker or an erect monument may be used.
- h. The interpretation of the above policies and of all other religious practices, requirements, interpretation of halacha in general, or policies shall be in the hands of the New Light Congregation Rabbi.
The Cemetery must receive the following information prior to interment:
- • The name of the deceased (Hebrew and American),
- • The deceased’s birth date (Hebrew and American dates),
- • The deceased’s date of death (Hebrew and American dates),
- • Name, address, telephone and email address of next-of-kin
- • Funeral establishment (if any)
All fees due the Cemetery must be paid in full prior to interment.
